Champions Yorkshire scored ten tries in their 66-14 defeat of Somerset in the Bill Beaumont County Championship, Division 1 Pool 1, match at Brantingham Park, the home of Hull Ionians RFC, on Saturday (May 23, 2025).

Yorkshire went into the break 19-nil ahead after three tries and two conversions before being awarded a penalty try followed by four tries and three conversions to extend their lead to 52-nil going into the final quarter.

Hornets Owen Griffiths had only been on the pitch eight minutes as a replacement for Dings Crusaders' Ezra Caven when he crossed for Somerset's first try, converted by Old Redcliffians' Jack Gapper.

Yorkshire hit back with another converted try before Hornets' Charlie Carter claimed Somerset's second try, again converted by Gapper. But with the game's final play, Yorkshire scored another converted try.

The defeat and the 24-17 loss to Lancashire at Weston-super-Mare RFC last weekend leaves Somerset at the foot of the Bill Beaumont County Championship, Division 1 Pool 1, table, so ending their part in the competition for this season.

It will be the battle of the Roses next Saturday (May 31) – and a repeat of last season's County final, when Lancashire will host Yorkshire at Fylde RUFC, kick-off again at 3 pm.

The tie winner will face Kent in the Bill Beaumont County Championship Division 1 final at Twickenham on Saturday, June 21, 2025, kick-off at 5:15 pm.

Kent have already clinched Division 1 Pool 2 with a 42-5 home victory over Hampshire last weekend and a 34-18 away to Cornwall today - leaving next weekend's result from Hampshire v Cornwall irrelevant.
