Somerset Women completed their 2025 Gill Burns County Championship - Division 3, Pool 2 – campaign with a narrow 26-24 defeat by Oxfordshire at Hornets RFC on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

The match was halted after 11 minutes to allow an ambulance onto the pitch so paramedics could treat Oxfordshire No.8 Leona Salisbury’s (Bicester Vixens) neck injury. The game resumed after a 60-minute break.

Centre Lois Bird (Hornets) crossed for the first Somerset try, converted fly-half Sophie Phillips (Bridgwater & Albion). But the visitors came back with a converted try.

Wing Lucy Maher (Hornets) claimed the second Somerset try, again converted by Phillips, but the sides went in to the break on level terms after another Oxfordshire converted try.

Maher scored her second try only for the visitors to counter with their third touchdown.

Phillips crossed for Somerset’s third try to give the hosts a 24-19 advantage going into the final minutes, but Oxfordshire snatched victory with a converted try.

Dorset & Wilts Ladies top the Gill Burns County Championship - Division 3, Pool 2 table after a 27-5 home win over Somerset and a 24-7 win away to Oxfordshire.

Leicestershire Women top the Gill Burns County Championship - Division 3, Pool 1 table thanks to 33-20 home win over Cumbria Women and a 19-15 success away to Hertfordshire Women.
