Wells RFC

5 - 67

(HT 0-0)

Hornets RFC

With Hornets 1st XV having a well-earned rest this week all eyes were on the 2s and 3s as both had big league fixtures.

The super 2oos travelled to midtable Wells 1st XV and with a total display of rugby beat a well-organized home team but alas Hornets were just too strong as they ran out winners by 11 tries to 1 and so secure a rack of points and another bonus point win on the road.

It was Wells who started the better with the slope had a game plan to attack and they did very well but were hit with a solid defensive line in Hornets as the mix of youth and experience in this team knocked Wells back.

It took 15 minutes before Hornets could get the ball and assert some pressure but when they did it was devastating. Sam Balkham was enjoying his afternoon as Hornets were attacking from deep and with excellent ball control were just too good for Wells.

Jermain Jones was a thorn in the side all day and Jon Roberts was showing that he is still a big threat.

The forwards led by Kieran Ward were dominant although the scrums were even but their ability to attack and offload was outstanding which set up quality ball for Hayden Tuttiett to set the backs in motion and it was a field day for the back division as they scored 9 of the tries.

Pierre Tucker was voted man of the match as he collected 4 tries in a powerful display and Balkham got a well-deserved hatrick, Jones got a typical try from 2 metres out and Oscar James got his typical try from 40 metres out.

The forwards however were not letting the pretty boys get all the scores and through Ash Locker and Roberts kept the forwards going, but their ability to provide good ball for the backs was outstanding.

Kieron Crowley and Eryk Luckza again show that they are improving every week and especially the young Crowley.

Hornets kicked 6 conversions via the boot of Jordan Humphris and in an all-round display of rugby the 2s came home with a big grin on their face as they enjoyed the afternoon against a strong running Wells team who were rewarded for their efforts with a well taken try late in the first half.

Final score Wells 5 Hornets 67.

This result keeps Hornets well placed in runners up spot at the moment with some crucial games on the horizon as we inch towards the end of the season.
