(HT 14-7)

Chester RFC

Hornets 48 Chester 17

On a perfect day for rugby, the Hornets welcomed Chester to their home ground, keen to challenge themselves against a side that had racked up 71 points the week previous against Exeter University.

Chester began the match with some impressive ball carrying, applying pressure on the Hornets and testing their defensive line. Despite the relentless attacks, the Hornets' defence held strong until Harrison Vave finally broke the deadlock, scoring the first try for Chester. Sam Earl-Jones successfully converted, giving Chester a 7-0 lead.

However, Hornets responded well leveling the scores with a superb try. Owen Griffiths sparked the attack, creating space on the right flank for Huw Morgan to finish successfully. Jack Gapper converted the try, making it 7-7.

As the half came to an end Hornets took the lead thanks to James Murray winning the race to a kick ahead,  which was also converted by Gapper. Half time 14-7.

After the break, Hornets cut loose, scoring four consecutive tries. Josh Sheppard opened the scoring after halftime, followed by Aidan Chenoweth and Sheppard again, with Tom Read adding another try to the tally. Charlie Carter converted the final try, extending the Hornets' lead to 36-7.

Chester managed to respond with a try from Earl-Jones, but the Hornets finished the match strongly, with Sheppard adding two more tries, one of which was converted by Carter for a 48-12 lead.

In the dying moments of the game, David Jones managed to score a consolation try for Chester, leaving the final score at 48-17.
