Hornets RFC
Clifton RFC

Sunday 16th October saw Hornets Chargers U16 boys host Clifton U16 boys at the Nest. Clifton were 3 players short so the hosts lent them 2 and both teams played 14 a side.

This was a game of 2 halves. The first half saw Clifton dominate and run in 3 unanswered tries as Hornets just couldn’t get organised until the last play of the half. Pressure from Hornets took them into the visitors 22 for fly half Will Kane to score. Charlie Roberts converted taking the half time score to 7-15 to Clifton.

After some stern words at half time from the coaches, Hornets came out with real purpose. From the re-start quick hands from forwards and backs saw Roberts score out wide. Next came a great kick and chase from Roberts but unfortunately the ball went dead. From the goal line drop out Clifton caught but then the ball was stolen by the hosts and quick hands again found full back Oli Thorne race in under the posts. Roberts converted. Thorne was on the score sheet again after a few minutes as he danced his way through Clifton to go over out wide. Clifton were still pressing hard but Hornets had really got the bit between their teeth and were defending and attacking well. From a scrum in Clifton’s 22 the Chargers number 8 Leo Deuvall picked up passed to scrum half Ethan James on the blind who passed to George Spinks at pace who crossed in the corner.

The final try came from a break from hooker Ellis Roberts who blasted 40 metres down the pitch to be brought down in the visitors 22 but was able to pop the ball up to Ethan James who ran in to score under the posts.

A great second half display from Hornets. Final score 36 – 15 to Hornets.

Well done to the 4 Hornets players who played for Clifton, Tedy Hayes and James Powell who played 15 minutes each, Jack Cockayne who played half a game and Ethan Havinden who played the whole game at prop for Clifton.
